As it stands, the State of California bans detachable magazines holding more than 10 rounds. This does not include the round chambered in the gun itself.
While this blatant and arbitrary infringement on our rights still stands, there is an ongoing legal battle aiming to take it down. This current fight is led by the California Rifle and Pistol Association, who have made progress against the state in the lower courts. U.S. District Judge Roger Benitez struck down the ban, but the anti-gunner California Attorney General Rob Bonta inevitably appealed the decision.
The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeal granted Bonta's motion for a stay of Benitez's ruling, meaning the ten-round magazine limit remains in place. Unfortunately, the appeals court wrote that the magazine ban will most likely remain the status quo, but that does not mean California gun owners are out of hope. After all, this is the second time Judge Benitez has ruled against the infamous magazine ban and 2A groups have secured multiple recent wins on other matters.
So what can we do about it?
The first step is to get involved in your local community and raising awareness. Much of the public is totally unaware of just how arbitrary these gun control laws are. By demonstrating that responsible gun owners like you and I are an asset, not a threat to the community we can work to erode the stigma around the topic.
Another great move is to get involved in local government. Clearly most of those in power do not respect our God-given rights, and by getting involved you can be a voice of reason in an increasingly unreasonable system.
